About Us
Megan & Mike Crane
Megan has always been surrounded by animals, growing up in Hants County, Nova Scotia, where she spent her younger years showing horses, sheep, and beef cattle in 4-H. On her 10th birthday she wished for a dog of her very own—and that’s when a little Chihuahua came into her life, she quickly got hooked on training.
In her 20s, Megan went searching for a small, fun, and sporty breed, which led her to her first Border Terrier. That was the start of a lifelong passion for the breed and for dog sports like Flyball, Agility, Barn Hunt and Earthdog.
Her adventures eventually took her to Alberta, where she met Mike while working on an Oil Sands project near Fort McMurray. The two married, moved to an acreage outside Calgary, and spent 15 years there. During that time, Megan ran a small doggy daycare, boarding, and training business right from their property—combining her love of dogs with her day-to-day life.
In 2022, Megan and Mike decided it was time to come home to Nova Scotia with their mixed-matched dog pack, including Border Terriers, Chihuahua, French Bulldogs, and Herding breeds. They settled in Hantsport, where Megan is excited to keep sharing her love for dogs (and all the fun that comes with them!) with the local community
Mike - While Megan is the driving force behind the day-to-day dog adventures, Mike is the steady support in the background. From lending a hand with the heavy lifting to cheering Megan on in all her dog pursuits, he’s always there making sure things run smoothly. His behind-the-scenes support is a big part of what makes The Clever Dog Company possible.
Our Facility
Welcome to The Clever Dog Company, where dogs have room to run, play, and feel right at home! Nestled on 13 beautiful acres in Hantsport, Nova Scotia, our facility is built with your pup’s comfort and safety in mind. Our 28 x 80 building is fully temperature-regulated and includes dedicated spaces for daycare, boarding, and training. We also have a bright, indoor daycare area—perfect for playtime when the weather isn’t ideal.
Outside, dogs can enjoy our spacious yard, securely fenced with nearly 7-foot-tall solid wood fencing, giving them the freedom to zoom, sniff, and explore safely. With plenty of room inside and out, The Clever Dog Company is more than just a facility—it’s a home-away-from-home where tails wag, confidence grows, and dogs truly thrive.
